A New Zealand Line ship and only included here because she is in the drab P&O corporate livery of the 70s.This was taken in Glasgow in 1973.

I was on board at the time - nice crowd if rather a lot - 3 leckies for instance. Left in Liverpool and flew out to the Wild Avocet - something of a contrast

My first ship' deck boy on the Hurunui, Joined from Southend Pier in 1972 did the coast and the Kiwi run
Also did the scrap run to Pusan Korea
I just loved the Kiwi coast what an adventure for a young lad
The Bosun John Hay was a very fare man.
Did a few wild boats myself including the Avocet.

He also loved a good party
His brother Bert lived in Wellington NZ up at the prison and would always come down with his mate when we were in, bringing a fiddle and a squeeze box along to entertain the lads "great."

I apologise that no the direct entry through link is not possible. It seems entry is through

Go to http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/

then type in seach criteria as River Blackwater From 1969 to 1969

Then select image reference I/Mb 39/1/3 then click on image to

enlarge to full page size.

This appears to be Hurunui laid up there from 19/07/69 to 06/08/69 with a P Class ship possibly Paparoa (also there in 1969) astern
