Windows 10--used the laptop all day and had no problems getting into favourite sites until I came back to it after lunch --opened it up and on the screen I got all this Russian/Greek wording--not knowing either language I plodded on trying to get it right but to no avail-- couldn't sign on or do anything with it--took it to a computer expert (PC World) and left it with him for a couple of days--he said that this is a common fault with windows 10--anyway he has cleared it but the question is:
Has any shipmates here come across this and if so how did they right it without referring to PC World etc where they charge the earth just to look at it---I would appreciate any help on this please.

I have not had or heard of this problem with Win 10...

One thing that I can tell you, when I was at college on a computer course the tutor when questioned about "computer shops" said you should only go in to a PC World establishment if you want to use the "toilet" or if they have some extra special deals on and you are getting something cheap.

Thanks Frank but if you lived here the only place to take your computer is PC World --not many specialists in my area --- this fault came on the screen as "automatic repair" then all this Russian gobbly **** followed tried always to get it off the screen but it stayed with me even turning the laptop off for a few minutes --back it came-- I`ve gone bald with all the hair pulling--last resort--PC World ----they`ve cleared it but would not say how it was done, only thing at the moment the laptop is running very slow --- people say that is because the huge amount of people using it over the week end--- is some one pulling my leg???????(Whaaa)

Have you tried using the "disk clean up" facility that is built in Win 10 or you can download "CCleaner" if you clean up your hard drive and then defrag the drive it should run faster.

How do I change my language back to English?
Changing system language

Open Settings.
Click on Time & Language.
Click on Region & language.
Under "Languages," click the Add a language button.
Use the search box to find the language you want to use.
Select the language, and click the Next button.
Check the Set as my Windows display language option. ...............

How do I stop my keyboard from changing languages?
Go to Keyboards and Languages tab and click on Change keyboards...; Select the keyboard(s) you don't have and click the Remove button (note that the default combination on all EUI computer is English UK Input Language with US International as Keyboard Layout); Finally hit OK twice.

Running Win 7 for SN I had to check my Win 10 tablet that this suggestion works.
If all else failed the oldest trick in the book was Ctrl-Alt-Del which would reboot the PC.
Now CAD brings up a menu.
Task Manager gives a list of previous work hopefully containing whatever is problematic and can be deleted.

Thanks for all your suggestions --if the problem arises again I will try out all that you`ve said, here`s hoping that it won`t occur -- much appreciated for all the help you all have given me.

I recently had the same problem with a Japanese lady's PC, a friend set her PC to default Japanese language, but she only wanted the PC to have a Japanese keyboard, which I had previously loaded for her,

I placed her laptop next to mine and by reading mine in English and clicking on the appropriate icons on her laptop, I successfully restored it to US English.

Limeybiker -- Only one thing is that when this Language appears it is when the laptop is first open and prevents me going into anything so I cannot go to any window sites , therefore I am snookered but I will keep all the info that you lads have given me for future reference---I am hoping that the fault has been corrected by PC World, up to press we are working ok except for the slowness of the laptop but I can put up with that for the time being --thanks again all of you--including joker Norm for your help in the matter

Assuming you are using Window 10 and you know your pin or password, you should be able to log on.
Click on the Windows start icon click on the settings icon looks like a cog wheel.

You can download three essential free tools from these three web sites,

Not a simple task but if you have a geeky oppo to assist you, they will clear most crap out of any computer.

If you have a CD Drive, number three will clear the nasties at boot.

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner

I`ve got Ccleaner on the laptop and just uploaded Malwarebyts , so we will see how we go from there ----referring to opening up at the start this Russian script only came on the screen once I logged in with name and password after that I couldn't go anywhere its a pity no other member has experienced this but they (PC W)said this apparently occurred on windows 10 but they wouldn't offer any help on how to clear it --only relieved me of £50.
Again thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear the saga continues, if Malwarebytes does not catch and remove the virus, I suggest you do a complete reinstall.

Go to this Microsoft web site and make a USB copy and install.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10.

Back up your files to an external source, but make sure you don't transfer the virus.

Have you considered a System Restore.?
That's where the problem started from, went into system restore and up came the foreign language --couldn't erase it , couldn't get back into a programme finally took it to PC W to get it fixed--took them a week before getting it back.
