Have a look at the research guidence notes at the National Archives ( TNA) for the record of seamen on British vessels 1913 -1972 the records are split up some in Canada and some at Kew

Put the ships Official Number or the name of the seaman in the search this will tell you where the records are at Kew ie BT 381/3450 covers vessels 160745; 160746; 160756; 160763 for the years 1945 Jan 01 - 1945 Dec 31, however Kew will not search these pieces but will advise who will and at what cost
