Have just logged on and registered and find the site amazing. I sailed as second engineer on the Rakaia mid to late 50's. Would like to hear from anyone who was serving down below when she lost a main piston rod.
Regards Les Hawking.

Hi, I have only just found this site myself and was ammazed to see all the intrest in the Rakaia. I was on the Rakaiawhen the conrod broke going across the Pacific outward bound in 1967. I think it was removed and replaced when we got to Aukland. I think the commander's name was Koska. I recently met someone at a party who is now living in France who sailed under Koska in 1970 and new of the Rakaia. I remember the faces but only remember the name of the guy who shared my cabin and that was Alan Darby.
