Hello,

Does any one know where the Marchant Navy voyage cards are kept giving details of voyages and crew on board for the 1960s and 1970s?

Thanks,

Michael

I am unsure of what you ask. with respect to ships name/UNO Number/flag state/company records. For British UK Registered vessels THE GOVERNMENT SITE MN RECORD KEW should be checked, maybe they have the information you require. Copies of Voyage article with Information you ask cost some years ago £60 for a copy.

Hello Michael,

Voyage Record Cards, 1927–1975

Contact the Guildhall Library in London - they will have them.

Voyage Records Cards show the location of a ship as published daily in the trade paper "Lloyds List". As Hugh says they are held (off-site) by London's Guildhall Museum Library and can be viewed there, providing notice is given to the staff several days in advance.
Sadly they only report the arrivals and departures of the ship and any incidents that may affect insurance - collisions, fires etc. No crew details are recorded.

Captain, Hugh and Ron,

Thanks so much for your advise. I will check those places out.

My dad was Wireless Operator on the MV Lossiebank from 10/6/1930 to 28/4/1931. I am interesting in tracing that voyage as well as others.

I am also interested in the voyage cards for the TES Samala for the period September 1962 to January 1964 as the father of a friend of mine was Cook on board.

Kind regards,

Michael

John,

See posts 1to4 on this thread. The Guildhall Museum's Library can email or post hard copies of their collection of Lloyds List Voyage Record Cards for the vessel. Give them the start and stop dates for the period in which you are interested, name of vessel and if possible the ship's official number and theyll quote you a price for copying and delivery charges. Dead simple.

Many thanks.

Is that ship the Lossiebank? If not, it looks very like it.
