Local papers here in NZ today published a photograph of the Mikhail Lermontov wreck.

She sunk in Port Gore at the top of the south island on the night of February 16th 1986 after striking a rock or two around Cape Jackson.

The photo was taken by a sonar device and shows the liner laying on her starboard side.

Ruud you amaze me........a veritable cornucopia of knowledge...I really enjoy your company...a good ship mate..though some one with all your knowledge would have been called some thing else in days gone by ..

A spooky picture, made even more spooky by reading the account of her sinking (thanks Ruud). A fiasco on board during the incident and a dodgy inquiry afterwards - hardly fair to the dead Engineer!
