An interesting snippet of news this week concerns the former Peruvian Navy replenishment tanker MOLLENDO (12,490 grt, built 1962 Hitachi Zosen). Apparently, she was lost during the first Gulf War but was later salved. She had been lying damaged in Iraq since 1993, reportedly owned by UAE interests. They were keen to sell her for scrap but various political and logistical issues had prevented it. However, these have now been resolved and at the end of August she turned up at Gadani Beach under tow to be finally demolished.

This ship holds a particular memory for me as I saw her on one of my very first (camera-less) shipspotting trips in 1974-75, berthed at the old Tilbury Repair Jetty on the Thames. I wonder if anyone has a shot of her?

Thanks Gdynia, but as Ruud says, it is the wrong Mollendo. The one I am after is of typical early 60s 3-island tanker design.

Thanks Gdynia, but there's no rush. Whenever you have the time will be fine.
