ATLANTIC! Sailed in her twice. Not even close to OCEANIC, but she was still had great Home Line's style.
Her foredeck should have been one deck higher and so would have been about 10 ft longer. Problem with berthing in Hamilton so this was the charge. Pity because with the longer bow she would looked quite good. Must better than most around today!
For a whole year... Monday morning, berth VEENDAM followed by ATLANTIC. Thursday afternoon... ATLANTIC sailing and followed by VEENDAM. Such was part of the job as Harbour Master.
One old Pilot Warden told me, "You are not until a Harbour Master until you have a ship alongside and 'all fast forward and aft' and you have to shout up to the bridge and say, "Six inches further astern!" Such as thing as gangways. I felt like a real twit! Lunches on board ATLANTIC were enjoyable. The Port Agent would invite me on board. Good Home Line food and good wine too! Hard work at that job!
