They are box like with massive lifting lugs and captive anchor chain links, dolphins, fenders?

question Question. I am not aware of marine traffic on the Crouch?. ? Was there in the past a local workers/passenger foot ferry, and were these the terminal blocks, acting as mooring quays? for arrival and departures.
Baltic Wharf at Creeksea is still in use I believe. Handles sawn timber from Scandinavia. Can accept vessels with max LOA 120m and max draft 6.5m.
Definitely a floating bridge.

They are components of a floating pontoon, a tidal landing stage. I was looking at a photo of the Aquitania in a floating drydock and these mystery objects are identical to the "heads" of the fixed piles. They would connect to walkways in direction perpendicular to the current, which in turn would connect to the floating stage, parallel to the current.

Rgds.

They look very much like the skeletons of the "catamarans" used to separate RN warships, when berthed alongside each other.
As a youngster, I lived in the RNB at Lynas, Scapa Flow, Orkney during WW2. There were a number of these catamarans that drifted ashore near our home. My old man, an Asst. Kings Harbourmaster, often used to send a boat to tow them back to their proper place.
The likeness is outstanding.
