Dave
Len Holder was at Aulis 1964I am thinking now of Liverpool: Ozzie Stewart, Frank Main, Chalkie (First Mates) and the younger ones Alan Bole, Len Holder, Terry Beggs.
Any memories?
Nellists Nautical Academy is now a Pub.Wasn't Terry Beggs Captain Superintendent of the Indefatigable shore scholl at Llanfairpwll, Anglesey. I think I am right ! If so, he and Capt Parry Hughes published a wonderful book on the Menai Straits - full of graet photos which terry Beggs took. I understand he was a very good photographer.
Regarding lecturers, not many of you will remember Nellists Nautical Academy in Newcastle on Tyne. I studied for 2nd Mate there in 1946 or 7. Neither of the two brothers had ever been to sea but their success rate was the best in the country.

'Bomber' Lancaster had 3 pet hates,I remember "Bomber" Lancaster at Hull Trinity House, he was a terror to us all when we were in the Navigation school, he used to tell us we should all be in approved schools, but when we went back to sit our tickets he was great to us, and always pleased to see us.
It may have been Captain McQueen - I did 2nd mates there in 1964 with him. All,
I was up in front of an Examiner Captain ----- ?(yes, above Burtons) for Coxswain Second Class when at the Boulevard Nautical School in Hull in 1958, can someone please enlighten me as to his name.
He was ferocious we lived in terror.
Yours aye,
Slick

I remember him well, at first when attending the "Pre-Sea Cadet Course" at the old Clarence Street location (College of Building) in 1955.Anyone remeber Captain Holland at Liverpool.

Johnny was it not Alan ollerton ( smoked a pipe ) and also Neil Robertson .Tom Ollerton, Jed Stone, Roger Scholes of Fleetwood Nautical College and not forgetting the 'punny' humour of Dougie Stott!
MIke, you may well be right, it's so long ago now (I left in 1970). Can't recall him smoking a pipe, though. I recall he drove a Hillman Minx (or Super Minx). When he made a point, he used to make a sort of plopping noise with his tongue.Johnny was it not Alan ollerton ( smoked a pipe ) and also Neil Robertson .
