CHANGUINOLA was built in 1957 by Alexander Stephen for Fyffes as were many of their vessels and also registered in Glasgow.
This was taken in May 1975 and shows her as OMOA lying at Dalmuir for scrapping.

My first ship,sailed on my 16th b'day out of Garston Dec/10/58.
Tiko/Fernando Po/Dakar for bunkers/Oslo/ Göteborg & Southampton.
Severn voyages all told ,paying off Aug/26/59 at Avonmouth. (Fly)

'Chanquinola' at the time [58/59] carried a Lamptrimer name of 'Snowy Thompson'[ Garston area i think ]
he was very good at making things out of canvas ,carry/alls,duffle/bags & the like all with fancy rope work,i used to have a knife & spike he made with turks heads & other fancy rope work on the handle,sheath was leather with wire stitching,some tea leaf pinched them when i was hospitalized when on one of Harrisons.

Served as junior R/O for two trips on the Changuinola, (1963) Garston to Tiko (Cameroons). Chief R/O T.P.Jones from Shropshire. A lovely ship with happy memories of number tens, good food, football matches in sweltering heat and the tiny port of Tiko up in the jungle.

Hi Frank I was 3rd Mate on the "Changuinola" March thru Sept 1961.
Remember T.P.Jones very well...real gentleman

"Changuinola" dry docking in Southampton, Summer 1961...spent a lot of time standing bye down there, remember playing cricket on the boat decks of the S boats and also for the Fyffes shore staff at their ground.

Found some old pictures, thumbnails really..been unable to find the negatives, hence poor quality. Maybe someone will recognise themselves, we had a bit of a bash as I was leaving to get married.

Patrick Byrne. Stoker.

Did anyone remember a Patrick Byrne? He was a stoker on board the Changuinola during November 16th 1962 through to December 12th 1962? Im trying to trace anyone that may have knew him as Im looking to piece together as much of his life as possible.
