I hope this is not an urban myth I am starting but I heard from a very reliable source in the UK that the operators of a HAPAG container ship had been denied permission at many ports to land the remains of the master who had recently died from Covid-19.

Could this be true? Sadly it is certainly credible in this day and age

Yes true. The ship is the ITAL LIBERA. The Captain, an Italian, Angelo Capurro, age 61 had joined the ship on April 1st at Durban.
He had tested negative while en route, but showed symptoms during the voyage across the Indian Ocean and died before the ship reached Jakarta. (Cause of death not yet established)
Ship refused entry to Jakarta and other Asian ports, also assistance in repatriation not forthcoming.
Force Majeure has been declared and the ship is now sailing back to Italy in order the repatriate the deceased.

Thanks for you confirmation. What happened to the old hatchboard and ensign method? Probably no longer legal
