Happy to oblige,David.She arrived in Glasgow to lay up on 8 October 1982 and at the time was the largest vessel to lay up in the upriver docks themselves.
These shots show her passing under the Erskine Bridge and berthing in Glasgow itself.Can/t remember when she left.

Thanks for those pics - I was Second Mate on her when she sailed from Glasgow in ballast for New Orleans to load grain for Korea. The wife sailed with me, through a typhoon in the south China Sea for two "day trips" to Newcastle NSW for coal for Japan. Interesting trip - clapped out ship! Again Many thanks - the pics were taken when the ship was going upriver to layup?

Small world.Remember when she went but didn/t see her go.I imagine she would have been in a bit of a state after her time in Glasgow.The shots were taken on the day she came up-a bit wet if I recall!

Eventually I will find out when we sailed from Glasgow - all I recall is that is was at night!
We failed to take photographs of that trip - it was hard work - the ship was sufferring not only from age, but also the effects of a prolonged lay-up. (my wife still dreams of chart corrections!)

ROUNTON GRANGE is one of nine sisters built by 3 MAY YS between 1972-74
now in service there is only one of them: SHI TANG HAI but his existence now is in doubt!

You're very correct... she was a poor ship when, as the Pacific Wasa, she was bought by Houlder Brothers in 1980 and re-named Rounton Grange. After the Tung Group took over the Houlders fleet, she moved to Taiwanese ownership in 1984 and became =China Marquis= then she was sold to a local Taipei based owner and re-named =Ocean Peace=. My lasting memory is the new owner telephoning at 2am in the morning asking how to start the main engine...

Was on this ship in 82 I think. Went through typhoon and was carrying coal to Japan. Have photos if interested some going through pam locks and of the typhoon. Went to Singapore and dry dock for repairs after then onto Thailand and back to europe.Was Second Cook onboard

I was on the Rounton Grange in '81 June to December. Last trip for Furness before being made redundant.
In some ways I thought she could have been a good ship but she was rotten. The accomodation was riddled with cockroaches. The 3rd mates cabin was right behind the bridge and the bathroom was actually in the funnel. Got a bit warm at times but the cockies didn't get that high too often! She was very slow and we had a couple of bottom scrubs. Didn't work! Then there was that stupid mobile crane thing on deck. The brakes didn't work so you had to stop it against the ship's side rails! Plus thanks to my predecessor it was the 3rd mates job to drive it - no matter what time of day. Thanks Tom.......
One day we had a cockie hunt in the galley. We were at it all day chasing them all over the place but it didn't do any good.
Fairly happy ship though but rotten through and a pig to work.

I used to go and see her when she laid up as I was at the local school she was next to the Earl of Skye which I believe was the old British Centaur.

Inspired me to follow my dream, against all advise, of going to sea
