I sailed as cadet on the Hazlemoor ‘69, Fernmoor ‘70’ish, and the Kirremoor. Was on the Kirremoor when she was the ship chosen to open the new Roberts Bank coal terminal near Vancouver in ‘71/2, I think. She was described in the local press as a “ Rusty British Freighter”
The Canadian PM , Pierre Eliott Trudeau, officiated and, when he pressed the big red button to start this technological marvel, there was a rumbling noise, a spurt of coal dust and the whole thing broke down ! We were there for several weeks. Good times. I managed to snaffle a British Columbia flag from the proceedings.
