Hi all

This one will test your metal Bruce & Hugh.

The above vessel was in collision with the Explorer of T & J Harrison in 1906. (Obviously not the Goncalves Diaz (Ex Mormacsun) built in 1920 which was torpedoed by U-502 on the 24 May 1942).

I assume it could have been the same owners? Any ideas to it's fate?

Regards

Nigel, I don't have a clue.

The later ship of the same name was a Hog Islander---I could give you a blow by blow description on her history---sale priced, 50% off and green stamps to boot.

Perhaps someone will come up with a history or a picture.

Nothing on the Goncalves Diaz at present but Harrisons Explorer of that date was built in 1873 as the Crocus then purchased in 1877 from Graves,Ferguson and Company of Liverpool. In 1906 probally following the collision she was sold to Pacific Steam Navigation Company to be used as a Coal Hulk
