I think the problem is the environment and subsequent damage that they are scraped in. Not the fact that ships reach the end of their lives.
Interesting post it's sad to see ships go to their end of life. You can't just leave them to rot on beaches just imagine if this was the case ship scrap yards have been going for years ,I think it's the only way out.

If I had one wish it would be to be on a tramps' final voyage, whether working or a pax irrelevant, and take in all she had to offer up. Deck and engine room machinery, bridge controls etc. Then spend a few days down the pit before returning to bridge for Full Ahead shuddering on to her final resting place.

Cannot recall any S/N member ever having that experience and subsequently posting a commentary on this platform.

It would appear that the shipbreaking folk of Alang are not keen on outsiders or visitors.

It used to be reclaimation of the steels, materials to reduce the cost of producing, and providing basic ingrediants [Iron ect] for the estalished steel industries.
