SIDONIA and sister SICILIA were built 1961 in Holland for Anchor Line.This of SIDONIA was taken in Glasgow in 1965.

If i remember there was a third built in 1965 ELYSIA that become ARMANISTAN and then STRATHAVOCH , SIDONIA was lengh. and cnv. in 1976.
did you confirm this?

Yes of course,forgot about ELYSIA.I think I have a photo somewhere of her as ARMANISTAN.

"Sidonia" was sold to the China Navigation Co., in 1967 and renamed "Hupeh". Lengthened in Hong Kong in 1976 for the carriage of containers and unitised cargo.
Traded New Zealand to Manila, Hong Kong and Taiwan until 1978. Sold shortly thereafter.

Spent twenty happy months on the Sidonia as R/O around 1963 -1964 (lost my discharge book) going from Glasgow to the Eastern Seaboard of the States carrying mainly whisky, then back to London and back to Glasgow. The old man was Alf Colqhoun (forgive the spelling) a real old dour Scot. :mad:

Does anyone have any further information regarding the engine manufacturer and make, was it manufactured by David Rowan's in Glasgow and was it a six cylinder, four valve Stork Werkspoor Diesel.

JEngineeoe, if this is any help, from my 1963 LLoyds. Oil engine 2SA 6Cy. 750x1600mm. Engine builders... Gebr. Stork & Co. Colin

I recall travelling from Greenock to Glasgow (no mean feat) to see the engine room of Sidonia. Being a B&W man it was the first and only time I ever saw a Stork main engine. Sadly no pix but fond memories.

Thanks Rennie and Mclean for the update. When I worked at David Rowan's we built and tested a 6 Cylinder four valve Stork diesel engine and I never found out which ship it went into, as I was transferred to Fairfield's and then to Lithgow's.. The engine was originally to be built and tested by Fairfield's engine works but was transferred to Rowan's in exchange for a 10RD76 Sulzer that was destined for Benvalla. This was all during the transition and with Fairfield's into Fairfield Rowan Engineering, a separate company from Fairfield's Shipbuilding.
