Here we are amongst your secrets and various keytapping abilities?? 53 Julian Avenue South Shields time around sept march 64/5/ In digs with other scallyways from the marine tech. about 9 of us and the landlady and her 14 year old daughter, great time. Dancing at the newcastle Mayfair, the other one? and the one in shields, not so good. Got caught one night, had the last dance with a wonderful young lady, see lived in morpeth, i was in digs in sheilds. WE said our goodnights-I missed the last bus/train and had to walk back from the Mayfair in Newcastle to the digs in Shield-I did the south side of the river!!!
Steve from Sheffield Signed up with I think Marconni, and sailed first ship New Zealand shipping co..
I cannot remember the landladies name, she was a terror/scream, and looked after us all. Phase 2, phase 3 and radio apprentices, Great memories. Her husband work at REDHEADS and kept in the background, as the disciplinarian,
I remember 3 dance halls in newcastle, the mayfair ballroom, the majestic rock and another that predated the Mayfair but was and had a good dance band.

Being an apprentice away from home, it was comforting to have good tech tutors, good digs and a most pleasant saturday evening dancing in newcastle meeting different young ladies from the newcastle tyneside area, but that walk home with a young lady of your choice could be difficult, and ache feet as you missed all the transport back to ones digs.
THEN THERE WERE THE FRIDAY PARTIES in the flats JUST IN THE STREET BELOW Julian Avenue- WOW-EEE! What whopping stories can be told here..

I was at the tech in the 50's, but stayed in Whitley Bay, came across on the ferry every day counting "floaters" in the Tyne to see how many there were!!! Good memories of the college and tutors.
I made pocket money at the " White City:" ( if memory serves me right) in Whitley Bay gong round the machines etc shouting "any one wants change". The Newcastle Brown was the best !!!

The "White City" referred to would have been the "Spanish City" The Fairground attractions are long gone replaced by a school. The actual "Spanish City" with white dome etc remains as a wedding venue, posh sea food restaurant, champagne bar etc. Very changed days.
