I was on the Strathdevon around 1980, met her in Avonmouth to do a coast round UK, liked hes and the team so much I stayed on her for the voyage deep sea to India. Great wee ship. Ian.

I was on her as cadet in 1980. Signed off in Liverpool before she did the coast. Left most of my gear onboard as I was expected to rejoin for the trip to India. However P&O changed their minds & sent me to NZ to join Aotea instead. Tough choice. Had to drive to Middlesbrough to get my stuff!

A great little ship though

From memory the SD14's had Sulzer main engines and those horrible Paxman gensets???

Never sailed on one but visited a few - sore head to boot!

Hi, I have a buddy who requires a photo of the Strathdevon as it is one of three he needs to complete the record of his seagoing career. Thanks. Ken.

I was on the Mulbera when the Strathdevon came into Muscat (I think) on its maiden voyage in early 1975. There was a party on board it as there were three P&O ships berthed at the same time. Myself and a couple of the other cadets got into a lot of trouble the next day as we snuck back in the dark and had its anchor bell away!!!

Went aboard her for a beer in Doha think it was late 74 or early 75 my ship was berthed ahead of her (Armadale) we got into a bit of trouble as they had guards at all the gangways (thats another story) good crowd on her, a friend of mine was aboard her as AB/Handyman Herbie Bloxholme, and I if I remember rightly they had just come from some out of the way port in Aussie. For some reason a small part of her cargo was blow up beach toys and the Deck crowd had been inflating them and throwing them into the sea, a weird sight, scores of them, all those rings with ducks heads bobbing around the berths lol.
Regards

Yuge
