Seven hatches and twenty seven derricks of pent up hostility. More commonly known as a 'Work Up' to those who sailed in her

And what's that Port Line ship seen in the second photo? The PORT MELBOURNE or PORT SYDNEY perhaps?
The third photo - is that taken at Hamilton in Brisbane?
It was the Port Melbourne if I remember correctly

Correct Dave. Hamilton it was. Ten minute walk to the first pub. Can you spot the old Ozzy Holden and VW car park.

See her red duster in Suez and berthed in the cut while the north bound convoy goes through.

Pictures taken from Tasmania Star while bunkering in Aden. Note engine room lube oil had to be stowed on deck, aft of the engineers mess.

P&O's 'Strathclyde' was full of Italian imigrants on their way to Oz.

Aden was always a buzz of activity back then. Ships passing through. Ships waiting for bunker berths. Tugs, Cutters, Dows and Bum Boats. If it could float it was there.

Picture of Arab boatmen running moorings ashore in the canal.

Come on Steve tell us the secret of how the Blue Star boats allways looked so damn clean and smart.....apart from bloody hard work of course. Have come across many of the fleet in different ports and was allways impressed on how good they looked....against ours.
Nonstop chipping, painting and soojee. On the BA flyer's we could work regular 98 hour weeks. Cargo hold preperation outward bound and all over repaint in BA and homeward bound. Two weeks in London and the PLA dockers would ensure we sailed looking like sh#t again.

The Mendoza Star - ex 'Chatham', was the best job I was on. Small and compact she always looked a picture as she plied her trade on the fruit runs from London to Santos and salad runs to the Medi and back.

I was on the 'English Star' for a trip. Paddy Cinco was bosun. She and the old Royal Star always looked a mess.

These 2 veterans are still sailing, as cruise ships. I seen the Danae, ex Port Melbourne? passing Aberdeen a few years ago. Classic cargo ship lines with a heap of human livestock topsides!!
