Last August a wreck was discovered just off the entrance to Bathurst Harbour here in New Brunswick. It has been tentatively identified as the Brig 'Galatea' of Newcastle (U.K.) Her regular run was Newcastle to the Caribbean then North to New England and then Canada to load timber back to the U.K. Does anyone know who the owners were or can supply any info on the vessel etc. It seems she was blown ashore on June 14th 1840, grounding on the harbour bar. all metals have been removed also all the ballast, maybe this was a possible salvage attempt at the time.
