Hi Dave
I was 3rd mate on the Landwade for 2.5 years before the fire and left her in dry dock just before the fire.
I was with Captain Earle and his wife Beattie who both perished for that time.
The new 3rd mate John Kirby I knew as he was from my home town.
I got a phone call on the morning after the fire as from the cheif engineer as they were trying to contact his father and mother ( he was a mate in Clan Line) and was away.
The Landwade had more than its fair share of deaths even when I was on her,
and seems to have been a very unlucky ship.
Anyway not the answer to your question, but a bit of info anyway

Regards
Alan

Alan I greet you. I was radio officer with you and apt Earle on the Landwade. I did not know of fire but am sorry to hear of deaths. Long time ago now. Do you remember that the Earles kept a pig on the stbd deck outside their cabin.
I wonder how and where you are. I'm in South Africa
