You could say this ship in her time has sailed between heaven and earth and has
helped many people in distress both on land and sea.
What was her original name?

Thinking about "between heaven and earth",
Stairway to Heaven springs to mind ( no, not Led Zepp )
and the place where Jacob dreamed of the stairway was
Bethel ... Is the ship the Bethel Ship; Seamen's Bethel,
ex Warrior?

Keep trying gentlemen.
You'll see why she sailed between heaven and earth when we get the answer .
Clue, I live near the town of Perpignan, this lady's heaven and earth wasn't too far away.
Hope Ronnie r doesn't accuse me of nebulosity on this one!

I have an interest in the Cathars ...
St Dominic had a vision of the stair to heaven,
but then he came from Fanjeaux, and that is near Carcassonne.
Is "nebulosity" a clue ... is there a Nebula named after this person?
More thought required ....

Yes, and I am wondering about "Columbia" space missions.

The moon "sails" between heaven and earth;
so maybe there is a ship DIANA, SELENE, ARTEMIS, CYNTHIA
or even HECATE?

He's got us at it again!!

Maybe it's a shipwreck off the coast near Perpignan?

Once again thanks for all your efforts. VG-tick.
However, I hope gentlemen I'm not going to be castigated over this one as well!
The answer is a well known ship, I'm sure you all know.
I thought I would use nebulosity, instead of ambiguity, it was not intended to mislead.
Put the galactic issue to one side and try the other part of the question.
Clue the distressed at sea could have been a bit bemused, if such a thing is possible when in distress, by this lady and the sinking ship they had just left.

If 'this lady' refers to an actual ship and not somebody like Joan of Arc and her Heaven and Earth are near to where you live, are we perhaps looking here at an event involving the Med ?

Peter4447.... Maybe you're delving a bit too deep, no event involving the Med but there again between heaven and earth the Med is not to be discounted.
I use the term lady because she was indeed a real ship and in my opinion, when she sailed under her original name, a classic.
Prior to her demise we might even say a very earthy lady.

So, we've been left to it ....
Perpignan is the centre of the Universe,
it's official, at least, the railway station toilets.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember coming across
a ship name that struck me ( ouch ) - I know it would fit the
question, but can I remember, 'eck as like.

Enjoy your break!

Perps station Treeve? Salvador Dali used to think so, orgasms and all that!
Move off the heaven and earth bit... Not misleading because during her life
she was definitely named with connections to both.
There are possibly two more clues in my last above. Hasta manana.
