Although the funnel is recognisable, from a distance my initial thought was she is a Naval vessel by the cut of her stern. Is she a conversion to a Cruise ship?
Her sister is the old Nieuw Amsterdam (briefly Patriot) and is now Thomson Spirit. She also is still owned by Holland America and is chartered to Thomson.
The two ships were the last passenger vesels to be ordered by Holland America before that company was taken over by Carnival in 1988. They were delivered by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in 1983/1984.
It is interesting how times change. In the 1980s they were considered to be the last traditional looking ocean liners and were very popular with veteran travellers. (Contemporary media reports, not my views!)
