I am not sure you have the right shipping line? The Lion Rampant reminds me more of British and Commonwealth, or Union Castle?
If you are sure, then contact your library and seek an entry in the LLOyds Register of Shipping for the Year 1937/8 and look for the entries under the shipping line you wish to clarify-the ships name! Best of luck.

 

could the name be by chance Greyhound? I have come across a ship called the SSYale. an American coastal passenger liner built way back in 1906. In the first world war, she was commissioned as USS Yale and then sold back again for commercial use. She was brought back into service at the outbreak of WW2and commissioned as USS Greyhound she was decommissioned on 31.3.1944 and placed out of service and sold for scrapping in 1948. I agree with the others and don't think that the lion is Cunard.

Looking at this photo of USS Yale (Greyhound) in 1918 I'd be 90% certain she's the same ship...note the mast/funnel stays to the boat deck.

In the photo of the Yale / Greyhound the lifeboats look like they have becketed lines around them and not the lifeboat in BosunsMate photo. Also some internet sources claim the Yale / Greyhound was laid up between 1935 and 1940.
So is it the Yale?

 

Odd that the "Cunard Monkey-Passing the Buck"...........

is a mirror image.

 

The life boat seems to be the Lazy Hound.
