After the 'Crown' misfortune, sleeping quarters for Engineers if they wished was the white crew hospital aft on the old 28's and 32's. Some of those crudes being loaded in the gulf could be quite gasious in the summer months, Open loading before the days of universal IG. Not ideal , but a form of refuge for those who wished with A/C.
I thought it was the old PO's quarters, bit big for a hospital?
When I joined no one seemed interested, well it was a touch primitive, I got it going sort of and was then taken ill, so ended up being the first occupant.(Jester)

How could I forget you Graham.(Jester)

Sovereign 6/70 to 10/70, 9 years after you, she must have gone downhill in that time, downhill for me as well, next one was the Comet.

Hollis-Graves rings a bell, think we knew him as H-G.

True Steve, returning to the same ship for several consecutive trips as I did, clearly the ship would be much the same, but shall we say the social side could be very different, which likely would spread over to the the working environment, or vice versa I guess.

Couldn't agree more and, generally, the older the better. The newer ships were full of people trying to impress and gain promotion. Also happiness/sociability decreased with the advent of air conditioning.
Not sure I understand your point about air conditioning, a few cold beers in airconditioned comfort after a stinking hot day down the pit was something to look forward to, plus of course a pleasant nights sleep, with luck.

Would prefer life with AC rather than living as shown below.

I was lucky and managed to avoid the C class.
Comet needless to say was a wreck, as was the Sovereign.
"Ity" boats were very reasonable.
Only River boat was in 86, when we all got the push, but I had started to lose interest by then anyway.
Bestest was the Mitsubshi VLCC's, from what was said recently by an engineer who was on one 6 months from scrap, they were good to the end.
Did a couple of trips on the 50's, nice ships, though I believe they went badly downhill.
