Very interesting set of photographs , EJR., What's aboard the Mexifloat alongside? By the way did you ballast back to the U.K., or did the M.o.D., try and find an homeward cargo to minimise the costs or even make a profit over the voyage?
Can't actually recall the palletised stuff, Several containers of shal we say metallic cosumables Army & Airforce, Electronic Stuff for the new airport (ELS systems etc) several containers of Refridgerated & Frozen goods, spare parts & genral goods, 1st trip down yes there were return cargoes (Captured stuff etc) worn out Chinooks etc) 2nd time back on the Lincolnbrook Long way home to Dakar for a cargo to Europe. Often wondered why we did'nt try the South African or Brazilian options but way above my pay scale.
Many thanks for the information, EJL., Yes, E.C.S.A., or South Africa would have been preferable to loading , I presume Phosphate, in Dakar. A long ballast too.
