Astoria

Jack Spurling, who painted this portrait, had a special relationship to the vessel. As a first tripper (I believe), he fell from her main upper topsail yard off Anger Point and spent the next half year in a Singapore hospital.
(He then entered the service of Devitt and Moore.)
The ship was built in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1885.
