Aurora was originally ordered by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O), and entered service in April 2000, operated by their passenger division, P&O Cruises. Shortly after she entered service with the company, P&O de-merged it's cruise ship operations, with ownership of Aurora transferring to the new company, P&O Princess Cruises PLC. In 2003, P&O Princess merged with Carnival Corporation and Aurora came under the ownership of Carnival UK. Despite these changes of ownership, Aurora has been operated by P&O Cruises throughout.
