Yard number 741 the last cargo ship built at the former J.L.Thompsons yard, followed by the (ITM) Challenger crane barge. This was powered by the last Doxford engine for a British ship (engine number 476 a 76J4C) and the only the Doxford engine built after that was for Port Wellers Canadian Pioneer.
Badagry Palm was renamed Cordigliera and sank off Durban in 1985, so the last British ship powered by a Doxford engine was spared the indignity of the breakers and some of it will still remain! The Swan Hunter built Badagry palm of 1928 was also Doxford powered, a 670LBD4 by Swan Hunter (engine number 1928)
