I was on the Express In November 1970, when, in the North Sea bound from Finland to Methil, a freak wave washed the Mate and Chippy off the focs'le head down to the forepart of the bridge. The Mate died on board the ship and the Chippy in a helicopter on the way to Aberdeen hospital later. Trader
Baltic Express Built 1957 by Ottensenser in Altona and in 1972 sold to Marastro Armadora SA, Piraeus, renamed Moska. In 1980 changed name to Seawind before broken up in Bombay 27.3.84.
Hi, I sailed on the Express 1965.The galley boy Ron Beale from Hatfield got drowned in Finland,Kotka I think.It was mid-summers day ,he went for a swim off the poop deck ,got into difficulties and drowned, poor boy ,he was only 16.Any body remember this? Sam.
sailed on the Express 1964 as 4th Eng. Remember we had ballast tanks converted for cooling the engines when breaking through ice. Thought it great first time I saw the pilot cycle across the ice to board us. Good memories.
