The British pass/cargo barque-rigged steamer CEYLON (1), 93m/ 2.020gt/ 160 pax; 09/10/1858 completed by Samuda Bros, Poplar, London, for Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation, London; 1881 CEYLON, Ocean Steam Yachting Co. (John Clark), London, she was converted for cruising, which was the first attempt at commercial cruising ever made and she made the first around the world cruise departing from Southampton, England in 09/1881 with forty passengers aboard; each paying 500 guineas, or about $830 for their passage; 12/1907 arrived Bo'ness for breaking up after passed through several owners.
