Hi Dave,
As a rigger I worked on her many times in Tilbury.
What dates were you on her?
Was the Bosun named John - (surname forgotten) ?
He built his own yacht...

Hi Stan
Lost my D/Charge book but from payslips it was between 81/83 the Bosun`s name was John Tratt .a great bloke and blocker. Yes was with him when he was building his yacht, clever man he had wood ,teak I guess delivered on board and had 44 gal drums welded together into a tube affair with a steam inlet and was forming spars. Some great stories about John, we where in Rotterdam on a lay by berth and there were new yachts on the quay, obtained quite a few of the fittings. I was on the bow of the Trader at night with a continuos heaving line and they were passed up to me. I also have the wheel from the flying bridge of one of the yachts on the wall, often think of those times when I look at it. Do you remember the Chippy Bill [Nobby] Clarke

Cheers Dave Foley

PS. You working in Tilbury,no doubt you worked the Bay Boats.some pictures on my merchant navy page on Multiply of some of the crowd. maybe some faces you may know

Hi Dave
Yes -John Tratt it was and as you say he was a great bloke.I saw him in later years in Dart Atlantic.
Also remember Nobby Clarke ......... also remember your bar with all the trophies and souvenirs decorating it.
Had many sessions in there when we finished lashing boxes.
Do you remember Sid Havies ? - he was one of our riggers but permanently working for CP - checking fridge boxes etc....Sid used his car all day in taking you lads to the station or pubs.
We did not work on Bay boats - PLA gangs worked them.
I will look at your link maybe I will recognise somebody.
Regards
Stan

Hi Stan
Sorry I did not reply sooner but have been working odd hours. Sid Havies the name rings a bell,as for John and Bill I would love to see them again, I have their phone numbers somewhere but its been a long time so they may have changed numbers. Bill was a character
I remember one time we had trouble with the captain over lashings,he had tried to get us to do some to save time and we refused and started going slow on stations, Bill was a laugh with the anchors, the mate would say something to him and he would stop lowering put on the brake and ask what he had said, would go into a monologue on how he could not hear him over the noise, had the mate pulling his hair out ..... Cheers Dave
