This is a Type 42 but unable to make out the pennant number but a Batch 1. I think that OCEAN is now Sunderland's ship.

I agree this is a type 42 either Glasgow, York, Cardiff or Coventry all pennants end in "8" but all commissioned after date of picture

York was a stretched batch 3, so its not her. Could be any of the other 3 though.

Hi Shaun and Paul,

Sorry about that.

I do have a photo of F173 HMS Arrow, which previous to HMS Ocean, was Sunderland's adopted ship. My ship recognition like my memory and eyesight, aren't up to scratch, and I thought the Pen.No. looked like it ended in '73.

Long story short, when I dig out the 'Arrow' which due to the restriction of access to the quay, is taken from almost the same position, I'll post it.

So then the answer is D118 HMS Coventry, commissioned 20 Oct 1978, photo taken 2 June 1981

Meanwhile I'll edit the photo details if I can.
Cheers, Gary
