Still my favorite class of ship, and the first ship I ever visited as a kid. I suppose that is where my interest started. :)

How successfull were these vessels? I believe some were modified at a later stage. One or two are still around in the Chilean Navy

The chilean Navy has recently retired the last County class. Now to be replaced with the purchased type 23 vessels.

Hi SAS Amatola,
Yep! Type 23's already!
We seem to have developed a habit of selling of perfectly good ships at the moment. This would be bearable if they were being replaced by new ones but thats not really happening. We will have a handful of brand new Type 45 destroyers soon (not as many as originally promised) but they will be replacing the remaining Type 42s...and probably the remaining Type 22s...oh and probably a few more T23's. :(

I'm not sure if this class was successful or not really? They seemed like pretty capable destroyers. Antrim and Glamorgan were both Flagships at certain stages of the Falklands war. Their biggest downside was probably their size. They were certainly large, mainly due to the Sea Slug magazine which ran through most of the hull. As a result they were probably quite expensive ships to operate so when the chance came to sell them, they went quick.

Hi I served in D16 HMS London from 1965 to 1967 and during this period visited many ports -dates I can not remember. I am interested in the dates we docked in Civitaveccia Italy in I think 1966 when I met Lorenzo Bandini the racing driver. Can any one out there help ????!!! Peter Or Humph as I was sometimes known.
