Wully,
You sure about that? If my memory serves, Kelly was built at Gerrards of Arbroath for PD. I am sure she was a trawler. She might have been rigged for flydragging but anchor seining? By the way, I am not sure and if anyone knows different (Davie??)I would be interested to know some more about her.
Best regards

There was a bit about her in the Fishing news earlier this year i'll see if I can dig it out and put it up. She was built at Herdies in Buckie in 1982 but I think she was built as a trawler for Scarborough or Whitby but thats in the article and i'll post the info up over the weekend.

Right i've found the Fishing News the Kelly's in here goes:
"Built in 1982 at Herd & MacKenzie at Buckie as a Gillnetter for Danbrit ( Fishsalesmen ) , Grimsby. Later converted to trawling when she was bought by Lockers Trawlers of Whitby. John McAlister bought her in 1994 when MacDuff shipyards converted her for Scallop dredging"

So there ya go I knew she had been trawling out of Whitby but didn't know she'd been built for the gillnets.

Davie ( hoping that the Fishing News disnae mind me putting up the info lol , sure they winnae as its nae word for word !!! )

I think it was just for a normal anchor. The used to shoot all there nets and anchor close to the end of the 1st fleet shot for a few hours before starting to haul the gear. She might have been designed to be converted into an anchor seiner tho in case the gill nets didn't pay there way.

Only a thought thats all.
