ss STEEL VENDOR official number 246464, built as SEA PARTRIDGE in 1944 for U.S.Maritime Commission, San Francisco. Renamed STEEL VENDOR in 1947.
Wrecked October, 1971, on Loaita Bank Reef (near Spratly Island, South China Sea).

Yes she was from Manila to Saigon with a cargo of 10,500 tons of cement,
here in the Typhoon Elaine.

That's some report.At the time of the grounding the south China sea threw up three typhoon's Elaine,Faye and Gloria played havoc with our operational programme but we managed to avoid them and gain a little respite from flying stations.
