Fascinating. Does anybody know what is happening on St Kilda that it requires such a large scale of supply vessel ?
Incidentally the Elektron was featured on the television programme "Britain's worst weather" the other day with some very spectacular helicopter rescue footage.
Just seen this photo - I had a look around Elektron a couple of years ago in Denmark, where it was loading offshore production risers. It was originally built for the transporation of large high-voltage transformers to and from Norwegian Hydro-electric power stations (at the end of the fjords). It can either load them by wheeled bogey or by train. It is massively constructed to support those loads.
The master informed me that it was being replaced by a new vessel which was to be DP2, and the Elektron was to be scrapped rather than end up in competition to the newbuild.
