One of two...
Empire Norseman or Empire Lytton

Of 21 'Norwegian Type' built in the UK only the above two were war losses .. both torpedoed.

They were two of six built by Furness ... a photo of one of the others here...Empire Nugget..

I never considered that ship for findable. Did you find her on what little was visible of the ship itself? The same sort of identification has been done here before though, I once posted the same type of picture and Stan Mayes recognized the ship in that photo immediately. He had once sailed in her - and seen the film it was taken from: https://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/125682/title/torpedoed-tanker/cat/503

Maybe I should get out more... :)

The goalposts especially aft of the funnel rang a bell... plus the funnel being at fore end of the poop....

So not late 30's german built or prewar british or US ....

So UK war built...

Went to the bat cave... aka the boat cave ... aka the farm office ... fished out 'Empire ships of WWII' by Mitchell and Sawyer... job done..

What day is it? Dunno... my short term is not so good... :)
