Everard Thames Barge 1966

Saw "Will" in St Katherines Dock, London, a couple of weeks ago. She has had her bottom plating renewed this year, I understand, and is now fully rigged again. Sadly they have cut portholes in her side to light the main hold space, which I think spoils her somewhat. For anyone that is interested, the Danish company Billings made a fine wooden model kit (display only) of the "Will" that is still available from some outlets - I am currently building it, but as the "Will Everard" when in trade. If anyone knows any other colour photos of her in trade, please let me know.

Dredging back into the past I seem to recall that there was a model of the 'Will Everard' in one of the Greenhithe pubs, possibly the 'Brown Bear' run by Jimmy Uglow ex Barge Master and Author, this was around 1961 maybe I am wrong but perhaps Captn Kenn can enlighten me. Regards

I seem to remember that Everards also had two wooden hulled barges - Sarah and Veronica - and that they were deliberately burnt. Anybody know any more??

My girlfriend lives in one of the old Fred Everards company employes houses in Greenhithe and the washing line post in the garden is an old wooden mast of one of his ships.....I often sit in the garden and look at it wondering which ship it came off....

I seem to remember that Everards also had two wooden hulled barges - Sarah and Veronica - and that they were deliberately burnt. Anybody know any more??

I sailed on the Sara in the Summer of 1960. These two were kept just for the annual barge matches and no expense was spared in their upkeep. They had priority use of the slipway in the run up to the races. and the Veronica carried a huge red and white spinnaker and the Sarah a blue and white one. I have some pictuires to post taken at the time.

i can remember the SARA in 1950 still working for a living and racing on the day,,,
the VERONICA at that time was a hulk that lay by the white hart pub causeway for a long time in a sad state ,,, they must have built her plank for plank as she cleaned them all up in the 1956 barge races bow sprite class,,, i worked on the lady maud early 50s and learnt to scull really quick they were great days i am sitting here off with the pixes thinking about them and the men that manned them i might have known captken.. yan down here

The Veronica when racing was actually almost a new build but her hull contained the timbers of the original inside - something not generally known. You might recognise some of the faces on the pictures I am going to post of the Sara in 1960. Perhaps, 'Yan down there', we did meet.

STRANGE ONE, But I know of only one Female Thames sailing barge skipper and a good friend of my family,,,believing she once skippered the Edith May, her name being Pat ODriscoll does anyone know her?
