Egyptian Navy Ship TARIQ was built by Yarrow in 1943 as the Royal Navy sloop HMS WHIMBREL. Photographed in Alexandria in April this year, she was sold to Egypt in 1949 and latterly used as a training ship.
Great shots of this and the former ZENITH. I was aware of the preservation attempts in years past but thought both ships would have been scrapped by now.
The last Black-Swan-class frigate and another prime candidate for restoration in Britain:
"Launched on 25 August 1942 almost nine months after laying down which was about average for this class of vessel. She was commissioned on the 13 January 1943 and was to primarily serve in the Atlantic as part of several escort groups. In 1945 she was sent to the Pacific for the last few months in war being part of the large exodus of ships there. She was present at the Japanese surrender."
