A rare picture showing the two forecastle periscopes, used when the ship was ballasted down undertaking ASW sweeps, ensured the TAS operators could maintain the surface picture whilst the bow was below the surface for optimum sonar effectiveness.

if you look closely they have lead diving boots on to prevent them washing over the side.
