The white ship in the foreground is the M/S "Arborea" of Tirrenia Line in service on the line Genoa-Porto Torres (Northern Sardinia); the small black ship in the foreground is M/S "Celio" either her sister M/S "Citta` di Messina" both belonging to Tirrenia too. Both ships were employed on the so called "Periplo Italico" (i.e. transl. "Italian Cir***navigation" Line sailing from Trieste-Venice, going around Italy, with calls at Bari, Brindisi in the Adriatic, Catania, Messina, Palermo in Sicily, Naples, Leghorn, Genoa, Marseilles up to Barcelona, Tarragona and Valencia. These were very nice small ships that could carry 28 passengers and travelling on them was extremely pleasant, true "ante litteram" cruises.
The white ship in the background with corn funnel and St. Marc Lion on it was Adriatica's M/S "Esperia" on the Egypt-Lebanon Line to Alexandria and Beyruth.
Thanks to Rivanj for sharing with us this very nice picture!
Cheers, Mario
