Westland Wessex HAS.1 of 845 NAS with other Wessex and Whirlwind HAS.7 of 846 NAS on deck. Disembarked on 14 Dec 1962 for operations from Borneo.
With the J on the fuselage and what appears to be an A on the tail, that suggests the aircraft in flight is XP142 which was later converted to HAS.3 and saw service with Hampshire, Fife and Antrim.
Furthermore, if it is the same helicopter, then, some twenty years after this photograph was taken, it was involved in a Special Forces extraction from South Georgia and later attacked (with depth charges) and damaged ARA Santa Fe (Argentine Balao-class submarine) outside Grytviken, South Georgia.
