They might need two black shapes in a minute if what they are writing on the side is "NOT UNDER COMMAND." They should get it all in by the time they get as far as the after funnel.
The Buffer cant have been overjoyed at using a ships boat for painting the ships side............Paint everywhere!
Bosuns chairs and paint stages.....happy days when common sense ruled!
I see there are a crowd of 'painting experts' lining the guardrails, some things never change!.....I bet the poor buggers on the paint stages are loving the support they are getting from the warmth and security of the port waist!
Think the whaler is over the side as safety boat, about to be brought back inboard? or just launched,, by the hands on the iron deck manning the falls ??
I have just been reading a fascinating thread on World Naval Ships Forum, http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14072.
About a mutiny in this ship in the late 50's, not a happy ship by all accounts. I wonder if anyone in the photo was involved in the mutiny?
Classic case of poor leadership and management.
