I am not sure I have fully answered ******* good question above, so here goes......
To be honest I think MOD did not really want to loose the unique capabilities that the B3 22s delivered to the RN, bespoke services such as high quality ELINT/ESM/INTEL, outstanding ASW (Anti Submarine) capabilities, superb point defence (Seawolf and Goalkeeper), afloat Command & Control (able accommodate flag staff), NGS (Naval Gunfire Support), Long range ASuW (Anti Surface Warfare) and many others, as I was still hearing DE&S discussions and additions to the plans for the T22 upgrade as late as 2009/2010.
Without the upgrade - the 22's could not have integrated the many newer systems required to take part in coalition operations, Artisan would have been one of them that they could fit and power, but not fully integrate to to Combat System.

Very much appreciated, thank you Tomvart. That certainly explains a few things as to why they disappeared so early.

Cambeltown also had an expensive refit not long before she wa chopped, well less than a year as I recall - poor return for the money
