The latest Darings may have the fire power but the 1950's Darings had the looks.

Can anybody explain why A and B turret are reversed with their doors open? And are the guns hidden, or removed?
Thanks.

normally done in roughers Roy in order to protect the guns from damage...not much evidence of that here, alternatively its also done for maintenance...possible here? or the turret may be trained aft to give more space of the focsle for an evolution (maybe a Jackstay/RAS) or a ceremony like crossing the line?

Thanks, Tom.

Something's afoot, with almost the whole crew manning the side.

Agreed - maybe a replenishment or a steam past a consort, but I cant see any RAS rig evident or flag romeo (indicating a RAS). I think in those days, 'Pirate rig' was pretty much order of the day in many non capital ships once beyond the sight of land.

The reversal of the Turrets is to keep them cool inside I would suggest for the visitors on board when they have a look inside.

Could they be ventilating them after a session with the paintbrush? It looks like a large patch of zinc chromate or similar (greenish colour) on the bulkhead below B turret?

Roy, it looks like a visitor/family jolly day to me.

I like Tomvart's theory, the support 'stanchions' (if that is the term?) are rigged for the awnings over the focsle. So perhaps King Neptune and his entourage are due to visit?
