HMS ILLUSTRIOUS

HMS ILLUSTRIOUS

ILLUSTRIOUS in the 50'ies. Looks a bit short of space, can they not stow them below? They certainly cannot take off from here in the direction they are pointing. :)

The aircraft in the range include Fairey Fireflies of the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Service, more Fireflies of the Fleet Air Arm, Hawker Sea Furies of the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Service and what appears to be a Grumman Avenger (starboard for'd). It may have been taken during Exercise Mainbrace in September 1952.

Exercise Mariner, which took place at the end of the summer of 1953, is the information I have. Here are some planes on her at that time posted earlier: https://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/1231555/title/hms-illustrious/cat/all
