Looking weather battered and worn, the destroyer HMS SAVAGE enters Scapa Flow after the Battle of the North Cape which resulted in the sinking of the German battle-cruiser SCHARNHORST.

[u]HMS SAVAGE’s Movements for the Period of Photo[/u]
• 1943: 12 December : Joined destroyer screen for H M Battleship DUKE OF YORK and H M Cruiser JAMAICA to provide Distant Cover for Russian Convoys JW55A and JW55B.
• 1943: 26 December : In action against SCHARNHORST at Battle of North Cape and took part with HMS SAUMAREZ, HMS SCORPION and the Norwegian Destroyer STORD in the torpedo attacks which slowed and finally stopped the enemy ship.
• 1943: 27 December : Escorted damaged HMS SAUMAREZ to Kola Inlet.
• 1943: 28 December : Passage to Scapa Flow with HMS SCORPION and Norwegian destroyer STORD.
• 1944: 1 January : On arrival at Scapa Flow began Boiler clean.

She had the prototype 4.5 inch twin turret in A position, as fitted to the Battle class.
