Bit late now, but how was the damaged caused?

On 27th March 1956, while on passage from London to Sydney and steaming off the coast of Ceylon, she collided with the tanker Stanvec Pretoria, resulting in a gash amidships, and extensive buckling to her port side, which damaged her Promenade Deck, Boat Deck and Sports Deck.
